KYNEX testing protocol

2 km Time Trial

Measure one continuous 2 km effort under repeatable conditions, then preserve the course and timing context needed for a responsible comparison.

Equipment

  • A verified 2 km track or accurately measured flat course.
  • An electronic stopwatch or reliable timing device.
  • Visible start and finish markers.
  • An observer or lap counter when the course uses multiple laps.

Set up

  • Confirm the total course distance before the test.
  • Record whether the test uses a track, measured loop, or out-and-back course.
  • Keep the route clear and avoid uncontrolled road crossings.
  • Complete an appropriate warm-up before starting the clock.

Run the test

  • Start from behind the marked line and begin timing on the agreed signal.
  • Complete the full 2 km continuously on the measured route.
  • Stop the clock when the athlete crosses the finish line.
  • Repeat future tests on the same route and under reasonably comparable conditions when possible.

Record the result

  • Record total elapsed time in minutes and seconds.
  • Keep the date, route type, surface, and timing method with the result.
  • Mark athlete-entered results provisional unless supervised under an approved protocol.
  • Treat GPS-only distance as an estimate unless the course has been independently measured.

Testing and safety note

This is a high-intensity endurance test, not medical clearance. Stop if the athlete feels unwell or the route becomes unsafe. Weather, surface, course design, and timing method can materially affect comparisons.
